Sepia Image
Give a photo a warm vintage tone.
How to use Sepia Image
Free sepia tool: wash a picture in an adjustable warm tone on the canvas and download the aged look.
Open Sepia Image on toolpermarket and enter your values in the fields below.
In the Image field, choose a color photo to tone. Portraits and landscapes both take the warm wash well.
In the Sepia amount field, set the strength from zero to full. Around eighty percent reads as a classic vintage print.
Press Apply sepia to compute the result. The output appears immediately below the form. You can change any input and run it again to compare results.
Read the result and use it as needed. If the number looks off, re-check your inputs and run it again — the math is deterministic, so the same entries always return the same answer.
Worked example. A full-color street photo at eighty percent sepia becomes a soft brown-toned throwback.
Tips for accurate results.
Pair low sepia with slight brightness for a faded look.
Keep the original if you want true color later.
Download as PNG to preserve the tone exactly.
When to use Sepia Image. Giving a batch of photos a consistent retro mood. Prepping images for a nostalgic design theme. Softening harsh modern colors in a mockup.
When you actually reach for this
- You want a warm, vintage tone on a photo.
- You are going for a uniform nostalgic look across a set of images.
Where this tool stops being accurate
- Sepia is a stylistic recolor; once saved it is baked in, so keep the original.
- A strength slider controls how far toward brown the image shifts.
Frequently asked questions
Does applying sepia upload my photo?
No. The file is read locally with the browser FileReader and the sepia is a canvas filter applied on your device, so nothing is transmitted. The toned result is produced and downloaded in the same page.
Why use a sepia filter instead of a brown overlay?
A true sepia filter maps the luminance of the photo into a warm brown ramp, which preserves the original light and shadow structure rather than simply painting a flat tint over it. That keeps faces and detail readable while still feeling aged.
Can I get a lighter or stronger effect?
The slider controls the amount from zero, which is unchanged, up to a full warm tone. Because the preview is live on the canvas, you can stop at exactly the strength that suits the picture before downloading.
Is sepia reversible?
Not after saving, since it rewrites the pixels. Keep the untouched file if you might want true color later.
