Add Image Border
Frame a photo with a solid border.
How to use Add Image Border
Free border tool: wrap a picture in a solid color frame of any thickness on the canvas and export it.
Open Add Image Border on toolpermarket and fill in the inputs the tool asks for.
In the Image field, choose a picture to frame. Square images frame most predictably.
In the Width and color field, set the border thickness and tint. Match the border to your page background for a clean mat.
Press Add border to compute the result. The output appears immediately below the form. Adjust the inputs and recalculate as many times as you need.
Read the result and use it as needed. If the number looks off, re-check your inputs and run it again — the math is deterministic, so the same entries always return the same answer.
Worked example. A 20px brand-blue frame around a logo square gives a tidy, matted emblem.
Tips for accurate results.
Use a neutral border for product shots.
Thicker frames suit avatars and icons.
Download as PNG to keep crisp edges.
When to use Add Image Border. Matting a photo for a gallery layout. Branding an avatar with a color edge. Making icons read as contained tiles.
When you actually reach for this
- You want a frame or outline around an image for a card, avatar, or print.
- A platform crops too tight and you need padding baked in.
Where this tool stops being accurate
- A border adds pixels, so the final dimensions grow by twice the border width.
- Color and width are your choice; a JPG border sits on white if transparency is not used.
Frequently asked questions
Is the border added without uploading?
Correct. The image is loaded locally, the canvas is enlarged by twice the border width, filled with your color, and the picture is drawn on top. The framed result is downloaded from the canvas, and your original file is never sent anywhere.
Why does the final size grow by twice the width?
The border is added on every side, so the canvas needs the border width on the left and right and again on the top and bottom. That is why a twenty-pixel border adds forty pixels to both the width and the height of the output.
Can I get a transparent border instead?
This tool fills the frame with a solid color you pick. For a transparent margin you would omit the fill and export as PNG, but a colored border is the more common need for mats, branding, and consistent tile edges.
Why did my image get bigger with a border?
The border is drawn as extra pixels around the edges, so width and height each grow by two times the border size.
