How to use Image Brightness

Free brightness tool: slide brightness and contrast, preview live on the canvas, and download the adjusted picture.

  1. Open Image Brightness on toolpermarket, then enter the values you want to work with.

  2. In the Image field, open a photo to adjust. The preview updates as you move the sliders.

  3. In the Levels field, set brightness and contrast percentages. 100 percent on both means no change from the original.

  4. Press Apply to compute the result. The output appears immediately below the form. Tweak any field and run it again to check a different scenario.

  5. Read the result and use it as needed. If the number looks off, re-check your inputs and run it again — the math is deterministic, so the same entries always return the same answer.

Worked example. Raising brightness to 120 and contrast to 110 lifts a dark photo without clipping highlights.

Tips for accurate results.

  • Move in small steps to avoid blown-out whites.

  • Reset both to 100 to compare with the original.

  • Follow with grayscale if you want mono.

When to use Image Brightness. Fixing underexposed or flat photos. Matching tones across a set of images. Quick touch-ups before sharing.

When you actually reach for this

  • A photo came out too dark or too light and you want to fix exposure.
  • You need to lift shadows or tame blown highlights before sharing.

Where this tool stops being accurate

  • Over-brightening clips highlights to pure white, where detail is gone for good.
  • Darkening cannot recover shadows that were already crushed to black in the original.

Frequently asked questions

Is the editing done on my device?

Yes. The photo is loaded locally and the brightness and contrast are applied by the canvas filter before you download. No image data is sent anywhere, so the adjustment is private and works even without a network connection.

What do the percentages mean?

One hundred percent on each slider is the original, unchanged image. Going above brightens or adds contrast, while going below darkens or flattens. The canvas applies them together, so small combined moves give the most natural correction.

Why might whites look clipped after boosting?

Pushing brightness or contrast too high drives pixel values past the maximum, so highlight detail is lost and areas turn pure white. If that happens, lower the sliders a little; the preview updates live so you can stop just before clipping.

Why did my brightened sky turn solid white?

Raising brightness pushed the brightest areas past the white point and clipped them. Pull back and accept some haze instead of flat white.
