How to use Unicode Inspector
Inspect every character code point and form.
- Paste the text you want to inspect.
- Press Run to list each character with its code point.
- Compare the NFC and NFD forms before you store or compare the string.
When you actually reach for this
- Text renders oddly (missing glyphs, reversed order, odd spacing) and you need to see the exact code points and their names.
- You are sanitizing user input and want to catch zero-width or directionality characters that hide malicious content.
Where this tool stops being accurate
- It shows code points, not how a font will render them — a valid point can still show as a tofu box if the viewer lacks the glyph.
- Combining marks and Variation Selectors attach to a base character, so the visual length differs from the code-point count.
Frequently asked questions
What does Unicode Inspector do?
Inspect every character code point and form.
How do I find invisible characters someone sneaked into a username?
Paste the string in and look for code points like U+200B (zero-width space), U+200E/U+202B (direction marks), or U+FEFF (BOM). Strip or reject them before storage.
Why does my string length not match the number of code points shown?
JavaScript .length counts UTF-16 units; surrogate pairs and some combining sequences each count as more than one. The inspector counts real code points, which is the accurate number.
